Trauma Therapy

Trauma is typically the result of a life threatening or distressing event in which a person feels severely threatened emotionally, psychologically, or physically. Traumatic events can cause Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, anxiety and other psychological issues that can greatly hinder the ability to enjoy life. Experiencing the steps of recovery can be distressing, motivating, upsetting, or uplifting. All of these responses are normal as everyone’s reaction may be different. Acknowledging your psychological response to the steps of recovery can allow you to harness your emotions’ energy and with the help of Rachael begin to live normally.

PTSD

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is the psychological reaction to a severely stressful and physically threatening traumatic event. PTSD can cause anxiety that affects sleeping, flashbacks of the traumatic event, hyper-vigilance, isolation, depression, suicidal ideation, and a host of other psychological and emotional effects. Rachael works with clients to identify what triggers stressful memories and other symptoms and finds ways to cope with intense feelings about the past. Using therapies such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), animal therapy, and cognitive therapy clients will become more aware of their thoughts and feelings thus being able to change the reaction

EMDR

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy for posttraumatic stress disorder. Like other psychological approaches, it can help change how you react to memories of your trauma. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing is one of the most effective therapies when treating clients with posttraumatic stress disorder. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing makes it possible for the therapist to zone in on the trigger and work to overcome it.

Intensive Trauma Therapy

Intensive trauma therapy is compacted in a one to two week long therapy workshop that focuses healing the symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder and trauma. Results normally achieved from months or years of therapy can be seen in small fraction of the time and can produce life-long results. Because of the fast pace of the intensive therapy, clients who would not normally have access to Rachael because of geographical restrictions, are able to travel to her practice to complete the therapy. This is great alternative for clients who desperately need help with trauma but don’t respond well to psychiatric hospitals or lack access to quality therapy in their area.

Animal-assisted Therapy

Using animals as a therapy aid is proven to boost the Oxytocin in the body and helps clients feel happy and trusting. Interacting with animals can in turn make speaking to a therapist more comfortable. Rachael uses animal therapy to help clients suffering from emotional and behavioral problems, depression, substance abuse and posttraumatic stress disorder.

Sex Addiction Therapy

Sex addiction is often solely attributed to men, but the condition can affect anyone: It is estimated that between 18 million and 24 million Americans—between 6% and 8% of the population—experience some kind of sexual addiction, and of this number, up to 12% are women. Sex addiction is any compulsive, sexually motivated behavior that is acted out regardless of any negative consequences that the behavior might have on one’s life. Rachael works with the client to identify behaviors from which to abstain. In therapy, potential triggers or danger zones that may facilitate addictive behavior can also be identified and a plan to avoid these triggers developed.

Partners of Sex Addicts

Partners of sex addicts who’ve experienced the negative consequences their partner can feel mistrustful, confused, angry, and hurt.
